Borau Ganadero – The “climb”

This report aims to publicize and bring one of the most important days of the annual livestock cycle in one of the wildest Pyrenean mountain valleys, Borau. The Borau Valley is located in the easternmost part of the Western Valleys Natural Park, and from the high peaks of the Sierra de la Magdalena the pilgrimage of cows intermingles with the coexistence and brotherhood of the ranchers of this Alto Aragonese town. The climb to the port represents the last step

An intense morning surrounded by Borau cattle ranchers, their animals, and some residents of the Villa who do not miss this opportunity to walk alongside these giants while the jingle of their shears gives such overwhelming images as these that I wanted to share with you.

During the three summer months, the surroundings of the Mirador del Pirineo or Los Lecherines becomes the home of all these friends, who enjoy these corners of wild nature, while the “chores” of their ranchers transform the landscape into a living territory .

From the ecotourism project that bears the name of Mirador del Pirineo, we want to emphasize that one of the main objectives of our routes and initiatives is to unite with this ancestral tradition from respect and sustainability, working for a living Pyrenees. Thus, from these beautiful viewpoints of the Aragonese Pyrenees, it is easier to understand and learn about the life of the true protagonists of these mountains, observe the majestic flight of the Bearded Vulture or enjoy the simplicity of nature in its purest form.

To know is to respect, and to respect is to fully enjoy, even more so in natural spaces as delicate as this one. From the town of Borau, I encourage you all to get to know our project, life in the Valley and the company of its people.

This small report is intended to be a humble tribute to Jose Luis Jarne, a breeder from the town of Borau, from Casa Gella. May you rest in these mountains, in peace.

Thanks to Álvaro Carvajal for weaving with your voice the steps of these Pyrenean cattlemen, to the Gaiters of Chaca for being the soundtrack of these Valleys and to the Borau City Council for their availability and good work towards all these local initiatives.
